To request an ASN organization should fill up the template indicated above and then sent it to hostmaster@lacnic.net . Once it is verified and no error was found, an e-mail is sent back with the "ticket" number that identifies this request in our system.
After being approved, it will be necessary to pay the registration fee and sign the Registration Service Agreement. The instruction for payment and about the agreement is sent with the approval message. The ASN allocation is only done after the payment and the reception of the agreement already signed.
In order to qualify for an ASN allocation the organization should have:
- A unique routing policy, meaning a policy that differs from that applied by the upstream provider.
- Or, a network with more than one independent connection to the Internet. (Multi-homed site).
The organization requesting ASN should be aware of the maintenance fee associated with the allocated block.
ASN 32 Bits
LACNIC is already assigning Autonomous System Numbers (ASN) with 32
bits, according to what was proposed by the policy approved in the
last LACNIC open public forum in LACNIC XI.
The complete policy text is available at:
http://www.lacnic.net/documentos/lacnicix/LAC-2006-04-EN.pdf
It is important to clarify to those requesting ASN that in this moment
not every system supports ASN with 32 bits. For this reason we have an
special form for requesting this kind of resource.
In order to request a 32 bits ASN, the following form should be filled
up:
http://lacnic.net/templates/asn32-template-en.txt
and then sent to hostmaster@lacnic.net
LACNIC make 32 bits ASN available to allow those organizations in the
region interested in making tests in their networks and systems.
ASN with 16 bits are still available and can be requested using the
following form:
http://lacnic.net/templates/asn-template-en.txt
In the case more information is needed we recommend reading the
following document:
- BGP Support for Four-octet AS Number Space
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc4893.txt
or to contact our hostmaster at:
hostmaster@lacnic.net
