Christian O'Flhaerty. Inquires how many members are using routing information (as-in, as-out) on LACNIC's WHOIS database.

Frederico Neves. 12

Christian O'Flhaerty. Is anybody checking this information?

Frederico Neves. Not necessarily, routing policy information is exchanged among the organizations at the moment of establishing peer-to-peer links.

Christian O'Flhaerty. Is there any other similar database in the region?

Frederico Neves. Not that I am aware of, there isn't.

Ray Plzak. A comment on the authentication of the information on RADB. We see a two-part authentication process. The first occurs when the information is integrated in the routing registries. The second is when there are means of authentication for updating the information on the registry's database. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the ability to establish a maintainer-object that is authoritative of those registries that have to do with the routing policy. In relation to this two-phase approach, it is necessary to validate that the routing information registered in the database is actually that which is in force during the implementation.

Horacio Tedesco. When will a routing database be implemented at LACNIC?

Frederico Neves. If we choose to use RIPE's software, it's a matter of purchasing equipment and publishing documentation. It's a quick process. However, the project of integrating this with LACNIC's system will take at least one year.

Wilfried Woeber. From the user's point of view, we must try to make these software developments as similar as possible to those of other regions. I am aware of the region's need to have routing information, relating to the structure and the particular procedures for each region, but, honestly, for the end user it is important to see the data in a common format. How quickly do you wish to implement RADB in this region? I propose that, if you are not in too much of a hurry, you discuss this on the RIR mailing list and see what common elements we can find. From the user's point of view, we must try to make these software developments as similar as possible to those of other regions. Frederico Neves. We have been discussing this issue among RIRs for quite a while now. One of the reasons for not implementing RPSL is that it does not provide sufficient information for our system. Implementing RPSL in our system would be an important change and the requirements would be plentiful.

Raúl Echeberría. Regardless of the options for its implementation, the key point is to know whether there is anything our community needs. If there is anything we can do to benefit our community. Only later would we analyze available options for implementing actions. We have received questions about this service but we do not know whether it represents a concern for the majority. I would like to hear comments, either from those present of via webcast, on whether this is actually a necessity or if there is anything we can do to benefit our regional Internet operators.

Ray Plzak. Each Regional Registry must decide how to structure its information. It is important to achieve a common format in order to deploy the information, and this has been discussed jointly by the RIRs. But the question of how this is achieved is independent of each registry.

Horacio Tedesco. I am not sure whether the majority of ISPs are faced with obstacles or problems when establishing a BGP or peer-to-peer session with another organization. I believe it is a service that LACNIC should provide within its region.

Conclusions.
Christian O'Flaherty. To debate, on the policy mailing list, the option of implementing a RADB service using RIPE's software. Frederico will send a suggestion to the policy list in relation to the implementation of a RADB service at LACNIC.
