Implementation second phase LACNIC's ASNs policy
January 02, 2009

In compliance with section 3.2 of LACNIC's Policy Manual, on January 1st 2009 the second phase of the ASN policy was implemented.

As already mentioned in our previous communication on October 1st 2008, beginning on January 1st 2009, every ASN request received by LACNIC will be assigned by default 32 bits ASNs; 16 bits ASNs will only be assigned if explicitly requested.

The express request for 16bits ASNs should be done either by filling the 6a field ("Additional Information") in the ASN request template or by email during the request process.
